The brief
Corte is a twelve-person company in Porto making a video editing app for small teams: agencies, YouTube channels and newsrooms that edit together in the browser. After two years in beta it was launching publicly in March 2026, with a kit for the 200 editors and creators who had shaped the beta. Its logo was a play button, like half the video tools on the market, and nothing about the brand said who it was for.
The idea
Editors spend the day cutting, and a jump cut is the one edit everyone can see. So the wordmark is cut too: split across the middle, the bottom half moved a few frames to the right, with a red line where the blade went. The identity is black, white and that red, and the launch kit came dressed for a shoot: gaffer tape, a clapperboard and a film can.
The kit
200 black boxes sealed with red gaffer tape, holding the team’s cards, a USB key with a year’s licence, a roll of tape and a clapperboard for the first shoot.

Cards
Black and red cards with the cut wordmark. The red ones belong to the founders and the black ones to everyone else, so beta testers knew who to call.

On set
The clapperboard and the gaffer tape are the pieces people kept, and the ones that kept turning up in creators’ videos for months.

Posters and stickers
One red poster for the launch night in Porto, and sheets of cut-shaped stickers that ended up on editors’ laptops.

What changed
Corte launched on 10 March 2026, and the kit did most of the marketing: creators filmed themselves opening it, and the slate turned up at the start of their videos for weeks. The cut wordmark now sits at the head of every export from the free plan.
