The brief
Dobra is a team of six in Porto who built a photo editor for phones, then noticed their most loyal users had moved to foldables, where the app was a stretched phone screen with a crease through the picture. Foldables were 4% of their users and a third of their paying subscribers. Dobra wanted the app redesigned around the fold before the 2026 models launched in the summer.
The idea
A book-style foldable is two screens that meet, so the app uses the meeting point instead of hiding it. Opened flat, the picture sits on one half and the tools on the other, never under the crease. Held upright like a book, the halves show before and after at the same size. Closed, the cover screen keeps the five tools people use most on the move.
Open flat
The picture on one half and one tool on the other, its value set as large as the half allows. Nothing that matters ever sits on the fold.

Before and after
Opened sideways, the two halves show the original and the edit at the same size.

Crop and library
Crop ratios set huge beside the frame, and the week’s edits in one grid.

Cover screen
Closed, the cover screen keeps crop, straighten, light and colour, and says what was saved.

The download page
The site makes the same case in one line, and shows an edit before and after at full size.

What changed
The new app launched in July 2026 alongside the year’s new foldables, and one phone maker now shows Dobra in its own store demos. Subscribers on foldables more than doubled in three months.
